Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cortland Comes From Behind for 2-1 Win at St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY – Shay Daly (Elwood/John Glen) scored two second-half goals as the Cortland men's soccer team came from behind for a 2-1 victory at St. Lawrence on Sunday afternoon. Cortland moves to 2-0 on the year, while St. Lawrence is now 0-2.

Daly's two goals came on two shot attempts. Gabe Garcia (Haverstraw/North Rockland) and Owen Brant (Loudonville/Shaker) each provided one assist for the Red Dragons. Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) stopped five shots in goal for the victory.

Baker Diaz scored the lone goal for the Saints, with Cam Moyers providing an assist. Zach Amato stopped six shots in goal for St. Lawrence.

The teams played a scoreless opening half, with Cortland holding a 5-1 advantage in shots on target in the half, Amato making five saves and Ott collecting his only attempt. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence also fired one shot off the crossbar early on, and another shot off the post in the final minute of the half.

The Saints gained some momentum with a pair of shots early in the second half, and found the back of the net in the 58th minute to take the lead.

Cortland pulled even just five minutes later after excellent passing down the left side from Garcia, Jake Hutter (Smithtown/Smithtown West), and Scott Schuyler (Cincinnatus). After a sliding pass from Hutter sprung Garcia towards the end line, Garcia centered a perfect low cross, where Daly was waiting to tap the ball into the back of the net and tie the score.

The Red Dragons got the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute following a scramble in front of the St. Lawrence goal. Amato was able to punch Aidan Miller's (Savannah, GA/Richmond Hill) free kick from the left side of the 18-yard box, and the ball ricocheted through the penalty area. Brant headed a pass towards the middle of the field, where Daly volleyed a shot into the top left corner of the net.

Cortland's defense did not allow a shot on target over the final eight minutes to secure the comeback win.
