SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Cortland women's golf team finished in third place out of five schools at the Union College Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the Mohawk Golf Club.
Cortland scored a 358 on Saturday and improved to a 341 on Sunday for a final score of 699. Ithaca was the team champion with a 673 (337-336) and Union placed second with a 682 (352-330). St. Lawrence (374-356-730) and Vassar (391-392-783) rounded out the field.
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) was Cortland's top finisher with a third-place showing in the 25-golfer event. She posted an 85 Saturday and an 81 Sunday on the par-73 course for a 166. Iyene Essien of Union was medalist with a 155 (75-80) and Sadie Cumming of St. Lawrence finished second with a 158 (81-77).
Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) earned a top-10 finish with a ninth-place score of 171. She opened with an 88 on the first day and carded an 83 on Day 2.
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) placed 13th with a 180 (94-86),
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) finished 15th with a 182 (91 each day) and
Steffi Trombley (Plattsburgh) placed 18th with a 197 (98-99).
Cortland will compete at the Williams College Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
