Cortland Finishes 18th in Stacked Field at Williams Invitational

Kara Dumas registered a career-best 81 on Saturday
WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – The Cortland women's golf team finished in 18th place at the Williams College Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Taconic Golf Club. The tournament featured eight schools ranked in the top 25 of the latest WGCA Division III poll, along with four other schools who are "also receiving votes" in the poll.
 
The Red Dragons finished with a two-day score of 698, starting with a 346 on Saturday followed by a 352 on Sunday on the par-71 layout. Amherst, ranked sixth nationally, won the title with a 587 (286-301), followed by fifth-ranked NYU at 597 (293-304). Other ranked teams in the field included Randolph-Macon (7th), Williams (tied 8th), Wellesley (10th), Middlebury (tied for 16th), Hamilton (18th) and Bowdoin (25th), along with "receiving votes" teams Babson, Gustavus Adolphus, Lynchburg and Wesleyan (Conn.).
 
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) tied for 70th place out of 98 golfers with a two-day score of 169. She opened with an 88 and improved to an 81 on Day 2. Amherst's Renna Chang was tournament medalist with a three-under par 139, including a 67 on the opening day.
 
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) opened Saturday with a career-best 81 and carded an 88 Sunday for a final score of 169 and a tie for 72nd place. Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) placed 80th with a 174 (89-85), Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) was 92nd with a 190 (89-101) and Steffi Trombley (Plattsburgh) finished 93rd with a 198 (100-98).
 
Cortland will compete at the Hamilton College Invitational next Saturday and Sunday in Rome, N.Y.
