CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland finished 3-0 at its own four-team women's volleyball tournament after holding off Bowdoin in five sets and sweeping Rochester with three late rallies during the second day of action at Corey Gymnasium.

In Saturday's other action, Hartwick finished 1-2 at the tournament after beating Rochester in five sets and losing in three sets to Bowdoin. Hartwick lost to Cortland on Friday night. Rochester and Bowdoin close the tournament Sunday at 11 a.m.

Cortland won 25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 15-8 versus Bowdoin.
Kira Pirrera (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) led Cortland with 22 kills and added 14 digs.
Emalee Ballou (Eden) recorded 13 digs and
Lauren Millspaugh (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) finished with 11 kills, a .444 attack percentage and four blocks.
Reese Chudoba (Hamburg) ended with eight kills,
Anna Lynch (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) had a team-high six blocks,
Melissa O'Connor (Hauppauge) dished out 28 assists and added 10 digs, and
Samantha Rodriguez (Camarillo, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) ended with 24 assists.
Alyssa Rich (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) paced the Red Dragons with 20 digs and five aces.

Zoe Ryu and Skye LaMendola led Bowdoin with 14 kills each. Kelsey Kim and Anna Yeh each registered 15 digs.

The first set featured 10 ties, the last at 12-12, before Cortland went on a 9-1 run to take control. The second set was close throughout, with Bowdoin within two at 23-21 before the Red Dragons scored two of the last three points on kills by Millspaugh and Ballou.

The third set featured eight ties and five lead changes and the fourth set had nine ties and six lead changes. Bowdoin scored four straight points in the third to break a 20-20 tie and held on for the win, and in the fourth the Polar Bears scored the last three points after the set was tied at 22-22. Cortland took early control in the fifth, going up 7-2 and 9-3 and leading by at least five points the rest of the way.

Cortland won over Rochester, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 behind 13 kills from Pirrera and seven kills each by Millspaugh and Ballou. Millspaugh did not commit an error in 20 attempts for a .350 attack percentage and had three blocks. Lynch finished with six kills and just one error in 11 attempts for a .455 attack percentage. O'Connor recorded 14 assists, Pirrera led the team with 17 digs and Rich finished with 14 digs.

Rochester (0-4) was led by Myla Nover-Estes with 15 kills and Rylee Bergeron with 13 kills and 13 digs. Lydia Weeks finished with 23 digs.

The first set included eight ties and four lead changes, the second set had 11 ties and five changes, and the third set had nine ties and five changes. Cortland trailed 22-20 in the first but tied the score on a service error and a Pirrera kill. Rochester regained the lead on a Nover-Estes kill, but Cortland closed the set with kills by Pirrera, O'Connor and Millspaugh. A similar pattern occurred in the third as Rochester held a 22-20 lead before Cortland scored the final five points. The rally started with a Pirrera kill, followed by a block by Lynch and Chudoba, a kill by Lynch, a Rochester error, and a block by Lynch and Pirrera for match point.
