CANTON, N.Y. – Cortland sophomore Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) finished tied for first out of 36 golfers at the St. Lawrence Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
 
Cortland finished third out of six teams in the final team standings. The Red Dragons posted identical scores of 336 each day for a total of 672. Ithaca won the team title with a 644 (323-321), followed by Union (323-335-658), Cortland, St. Lawrence (351-360-711), Vassar (378-369-747) and William Smith (457-409-866).
 
Milazzo recorded a two-over par 74 on Saturday and trailed Union's Iyene Essien by a stroke. On Sunday, Milazzo carded the best round of the day with a 77 and Essien finished with a 78 as the two golfers tied for first with final scores of 151. Sadie Cumming of St. Lawrence and Brianna Morrison of Ithaca tied for third, each with a 157. Last season, Essien was the tournament medalist with a 151 and Milazzo was second with a 155.
 
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) was Cortland's second finisher in 12th place with a 174. She opened with an 88 followed by an 86. Steffi Trombley (Plattsburgh) placed 13th with a 175 (90-85), Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) was 14th with a 176 (84-92) and Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) tied for 18th with a 180 (92-88) as all five Red Dragons earned spots in the top half of the field.
