Cortland Women Earn 173-69 Dual Victory at New Paltz

Julia Bryce was victorious in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished first in 12 individual events and posted the best two times in both relays as the Red Dragons defeated host New Paltz, 173-69, in a dual meet. Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Morgan Hannon (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt) led the way for Cortland with two individual victories apiece.
 
Bryce won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:24.56 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.30. Hannon was the 500-yard freestyle winner in 5:42.53 and had the best time in the 200-yard IM in 2:23.23 as an exhibition entry. Tristinye Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.89) and was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:51.02), while Emma Bouwens (Hilton) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.29) and was second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.49).
 
Ryann Redmond (Floral Park/Floral Park Memorial) earned a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:03.18), Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) was the 100-yard backstroke winner (1:06.56) and Ella Garrow (Peru) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.82). Erin Galligan (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) posted a win in the 50-yard freestyle (27.27), Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford) was the 100-yard freestyle winner (1:00.02), and Maura Nestler (Stormville/John Jay) was the victor in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:46.56).
 
The quartet of Bouwens, Cassidy Torres (Brooklyn/High School for Health Professionals & Human Services), (Areiannah) Martinez-Reyes and Norah Eisnor (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:21.80. Peyton Glor (Tonawanda/Mount Saint Mary Academy), Garrow, Bryce and Lynch finished second in 4:24.24. As exhibition entries in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Garrow, Bryce, (Tristinye) Martinez-Reyes and Lynch posted the fastest time in 3:57.33, while Bouwens, Torres, Galligan and (Areiannah) Martinez-Reyes were second in 4:01.72.
 
Torres earned two runner-up finishes with times of 1:14.62 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:47.88 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Lillian Accettella (Newtown, CT) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:03.98), Sydney Crozier (Amherst) was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.98), and Theodora D'Amelio (Staten Island/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.74). Emma Wilson (Red Hook) was the runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.95) and Glor was second as an exhibition entry in the 200-yard IM (2:27.10).
 
No diving events were conducted as there is no diving setup at New Paltz.
 
Cortland returns to action next weekend at the RPI Kumpf Invitational on Saturday and the Hobart/William Smith Diving Invitational on Sunday.
