Red Dragons Finish 10th at Budd Whitehill National Duals

Ethan Gallo posted two wins by major decision on the second day of the Budd Whitehill National Duals; Gallo finished the weekend with a 5-0 record at 197 pounds
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Cortland wrestling team went 1-1 to finish in 10th place on the second day of the 16-team Budd Whitehill National Duals Saturday at Lycoming College. The Red Dragons defeated nationally fourth-ranked The College of New Jersey by a 26-21 score and lost to Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 30-16, to move to 2-3 on the season in duals. 
 
Against TCNJ, Cortland posted three pins and two major decisions among its five bout victories. Culley Bellino (Canastota) earned a pin in just 30 seconds at 141 pounds. Colton Havens (Canisteo/Canisteo-Greenwood) and Justin Klein (Miller Place) both also posted first-period pins at 157 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively. At 133 pounds, Rocco Futia (Wallkill) tallied five takedowns and a two-point reversal to earn a 17-6 major decision. With Cortland leading the dual by a 22-15 scoreline heading into the 197-pound bout, Ethan Gallo (Minisink/Minisink Valley) posted a 12-2 victory by major decision to push the Cortland edge to 26-15 and secure the dual win, despite TCNJ recording a pin in the final bout at 285 pounds.  
 
The Red Dragons posted four wins in the match against UW-Stevens Points, including another pin by Bellino at 141 pounds. Gallo earned his second win by major decision of the day with a 14-1 victory, moving to 5-0 on the weekend. Futia wrapped up a 2-0 day with a 10-4 decision at 133 pounds, and Joseph Visciano (Smithtown/Smithtown) recorded a 13-10 victory at 174 pounds.
