Cortland Baseball Ranked 13th in D3baseball.com National Preseason Poll

The Cortland baseball team is ranked 13th nationally in Division III in the D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) 2026 preseason poll.

Cortland is coming off a 2025 campaign in which the Red Dragons finished 31-13 and made its 32nd straight NCAA Division III tournament appearance (1993-2019, 2021-25, no tournament in 2020). The NCAA streak is the longest ever in Division III history and it's the longest active streak among all NCAA divisions.

Cortland is scheduled to play seven games versus ranked teams this spring and a total of 13 games against teams that played in last year's NCAA Division III playoffs, including six games against four schools - Denison, Kean, Rowan (twice) and Johns Hopkins (twice) - that advanced to the World Series and two other games versus NCAA Super Regional teams (Lynchburg and Belhaven). The Red Dragons play a doubleheader at Liberty League champion RPI and three SUNYAC games against NCAA at-large qualifier Oswego.

Cortland opens the season Feb. 19-22 at the D3 Showcase in Greensboro, N.C., with four games, including third-ranked Denison and sixth-ranked Lynchburg, along with perennially strong teams in Marietta and Christopher Newport. The Red Dragons play a doubleheader versus eighth-ranked Rowan on Feb. 28, tentatively set to be held at the University of Pennsylvania, followed the next day with a game against fourth-ranked Kean, tentatively scheduled to be played in Madison, N.J.

The Red Dragons play a doubleheader at 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins on March 7. The contest with Belhaven kicks off a five-game schedule March 13-15 at the Berry (Ga.) Invitational that also includes two games versus Marietta and two against the host Vikings. SUNYAC play begins at home March 20-21 with a three-game set versus Plattsburgh. The Oswego games are road contests set for April 7 (doubleheader) and April 21 (single game), and the RPI twinbill is scheduled for April 18.

Cortland has made 15 World Series appearances, all since 1995 - the most by any school since the eight-team Series format was adopted in 1991. Of those showings, 11 have come under current head coach Joe Brown (2000-01, 2005, 2007-08, 2010, 2012, 2014-16, 2021) since he started as head coach in 2000. Cortland won the 2015 national title, finished second nationally twice (2005, 2010), placed third four times (1997, 1998, 2016, 2021) and was fourth twice (2007, 2012).
