Coach's Corner - Comments from Cortland Assistant Coach Chad Dunham
Much like our notion from last week, a lot of the team is working through cumulative fatigue! Despite this, we had a healthy number of solid performances – impressive to us given the quality work they've been putting in!
Being our second meet back our big focus was on process, outcomes and fretting about them can often be a distraction – refocusing on how we do things is what gets those rewards! So while it's still early (this was the first meet of 2026 for a decent number of folks!), we want to nail down the way we warm up, execute the plan for each event, cool down, and support others. All event groups demonstrated this and were awarded with some fun results!
To shout out a few we're proud of,
Travis Iwuagwu in the 60 hurdles,
Katie Ball in Long Jump and Hurdles, and
Reilly Quinn setting a new best in Long Jump and immediately headed over to High Jump for a solid series.
Our sprints squad especially showed a lot of depth, we're proud at the number of women and men who have posted times placing them well in the depth charts of our conference. We also picked up event wins in the men's 60 by
LeBron Richardson and men's 400 by
Christian Kahrs.
Both squads in the distance events set out to work together by having pacers set the tone, and many in the group were awarded with PRs! Special shout outs go to
Alexa Wolcott,
Phoebe Peer,
Brandon Mulholland, and
Hunter Rautenstrauch – who worked great to set up strong races for their teammates!
At the throwing circles, the women's team was noted for their high level of cohesiveness and being supportive of all teammates - which alongside their work ethic, it's no surprise great things happen like PRs, even double PRs in the case of
Giuliana Rosario! On the men's side,
Logan Darling, Elliot Supley, and
Jack Smith all set great PRs in the Weight Throw!
We do return to Ithaca next week for the competitive Bomber Invitational, while a trio of women's distance runners heads to Boston – we aim to have more good news!
