NORTHFIELD, VT – Nazareth's Logan Tobias scored 10 seconds into overtime to lift the Golden Flyers to a 4-3 victory over the Cortland men's hockey team in the championship game of the Norwich Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Nazareth improves to 9-4-1, while Cortland falls to 7-5-1 on the year.
Nathan Garnier (Laval, QC/Cornwall Colts) had a goal and an assist for the Red Dragons, while
Garrett Krieger (Skaneateles/Utica Jr. Comets) and

Tobias led Nazareth with a goal and an assist, while Blake Frost, Kai Shen, and Jason Shafer each netted a goal. Paul Dalessio saved 33 shots in goal to record the victory for the Golden Flyers.
The first period was scoreless despite multiple power-play opportunities due to seven minor penalties, three by Nazareth and four by Cortland. The Red Dragons had nine shots on goal that were all saved by Dalessio, while Cortland goaltender
Nolan Suggs (White Lake, MI/El Paso Rhinos) stopped all 11 shots he faced in the frame.
With under nine minutes left in the second period, Shen found the back of the net for the first goal of the game to give Nazareth the lead.
The Red Dragons knotted the score with a power-play goal by Krieger with four minutes left in the period, Krieger's fourth goal of the season.
Thomas Rockey (Mullica Hill, NJ/Rochester Jr. Americans) and
Stephen Kyrkostas (Selden/Johnstown Tomahawks) earned the assists for the Red Dragons.
Only 37 seconds after tying the score, Cortland was caught with too many players on the ice, one of three times in the game that the Red Dragons were penalized for that infraction. The Golden Flyers capitalized with a power-play goal of their own by Shafer to give Nazareth a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
In the opening minute of the third period, Nazareth was sent to the penalty box for a roughing infraction, and Christiano found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the year to tie the score once again. The assists on the goal were credited to
Alex Zakrzewski (Buffalo/Rochester Jr. Americans) and Garnier.
A holding penalty by Cortland led to another power-play goal by Nazareth with just over 14 minutes remaining in the third period, with Frost tallying the goal for the Golden Flyers.
With 2:10 remaining in the period, Cortland used a timeout and pulled Suggs for an extra skater to score the tying goal. With less than a minute remaining, Garnier had a pair of shots saved by Dalessio, but was able to score on the third attempt to send the game to overtime. The goal was Garnier's team-leading seventh goal of the season, assisted by
Conor Humphrey (Penfield/Rochester Jr. Americans) and
Colby Seitz (Eden/Corpus Christi IceRays).
After Tobias won the opening faceoff of the extra period, he was able to quickly end the game with an unassisted goal to secure the tournament title for Nazareth.
