#22 Cortland Wins 14th Straight, Remains Unbeaten in SUNYAC, with Victory at Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked Cortland women's basketball team won its 14th straight game and remained unbeaten in SUNYAC play with a 62-39 victory at Oneonta.
 
The Red Dragons (16-2, 11-0 SUNYAC) are ranked 22nd nationally by D3hoops.com and 20th by the WBCA. Cortland will play at second-place New Paltz (16-2, 10-1 SUNYAC) Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) led Cortland with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She also finished with five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Cadence Nicholas (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) scored a career-high 15 points, hitting 6-of-8 field goals and 3-for-3 at the free throw line. Jackie Funk (Penfield) finished with nine points, while Sarah Owen (Floral Park/Floral Park Memorial) and Mariah Huss (Buffalo/Sacred Heart Academy) led the team with six rebounds each. Owen's six caroms are her career high.
 
Carlie Young scored 11 points for Oneonta (10-9, 5-7 SUNYAC) She made 4-of-7 shots, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Tyalia Fret-Thom scored seven points, Addy Eckert pulled down six rebounds, and Megan Desrats added five rebounds and three assists.
 
Cortland shot 51 percent from the field overall (23-of-45), but just 2-of-8 from 3-point range. The guests were 14-of-19 from the foul line. Oneonta was held to 29 percent shooting overall and 31 percent (5-of-16) from deep. The hosts made 8-of-14 free throws.
 
Cortland never trailed, taking a 9-2 lead to open the game and leading 12-7 after one period. Cortland went on a 10-0 run and held Oneonta scoreless for the first 6:37 of the second to take a 22-7 lead. Tillotson scored six points and Funk tallied four points during that stretch. Cortland led 31-17 at halftime behind 13 points from Tillotson and nine from Nicholas.
 
Oneonta was within 11 points at 36-25 midway through the third, but Cortland fashioned a 12-0 run to end the period highlighted by four points from Nicholas and a Funk 3-point play. Cortland's lead was at least 19 points the entire fourth quarter.
