Cortland Women Win Five Events at USMMA Memorial Invitational

Sydney Crozier finished third in the 200-yard butterfly
KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team competed at the non-team scoring U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invitational on Saturday. The meet featured competitors from Cortland, Merchant Marine, The College of New Jersey, Kutztown University and Maritime College.
 
Five Red Dragons posted victories at the meet. Ella Garrow (Peru) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.00), Morgan Hannon (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.02), and Emma Bouwens (Hilton) was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.86). Alyssa Haberlack (Long Beach) took top honors in 1-meter diving (248.55 points) and Auttumn Ayakawa (Honolulu, HI/Coppell (TX)) was the winner in 3-meter diving (290.60 points).
 
Cassidy Torres (Brooklyn/High School for Health Professionals & Human Services) registered a pair of runner-up finishes - she was second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.25) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.88). Cortland finished second in the 200-yard medley relay as Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo), Garrow, Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Erin Galligan (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) finished in a time of 1:58.23.
 
Martinez-Reyes also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.86), Hannon was third in the 400-yard IM (4:58.81), Sydney Crozier (Amherst) placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:33.94), and Ryann Redmond (Floral Park/Floral Park Memorial) was third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.56). Ayakawa finished third in 1-meter diving (232.45 points) and Haberlack was third in 3-meter diving (223.15 points).
 
Rounding out Cortland's top-four individual finishers was Tristinye Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) in fourth place in the 400-yard IM (5:04.31) and Maura Nestler (Stormville/John Jay) in fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:46.24).
 
Cortland will celebrate Senior Day next Saturday when it hosts Fredonia in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
