WEST CHESTER, PA. - The Cortland women's gymnastics team nine top-six finishes in a 192.65-189.225 dual-meet loss at Division II West Chester University.
 
Shyann Bootman (East Greenbush/World Class Gymnastics Academy) finished second on balance beam with a 9.725 and tied for fourth on floor exercise with a 9.675. Tayah Graham (Syracuse/Blaze Gymnastics) finished second on vault (9.675) and Autumn Adkins (Aledo, TX/Impact Athletics Training Center) placed third on floor (9.70).
 
Gianna Mirigliano (Springfield, PA/Roth's CrossPoint Gymnastics) tied for fourth place on beam (9.575) and was fifth on vault (9.60). Kiana Wong (Elk Grove, CA/Dream Xtreme Gymnastics) tied for fourth on uneven bars (9.60). Also for the Red Dragons, Samantha Meadows (Cypress, TX/Cypress Academy of Gymnastics) tied for fourth on beam (9.575) and Tessa Sutton (Fairport/Rochester Gymnastics Academy) was sixth on beam (9.475).
 
West Chester's Gianna Smith won uneven bars (9.825) and floor exercise (9.75), and she was the lone all-arounder at the meet with a combined score of 38.65. Sarah Eskew won vault (9.70) and Tatum McGuinn won beam (9.825).
 
Cortland returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Ithaca.

Coach's Corner - Comments from Cortland Head Coach Sulekha Modi Zaug:

After a rocky start in the first event, the team put that behind us and pushed through the next three showing a lot of fight. We have increased skill levels on all events making the difficulty in each routine that much harder to execute. These early meets are so great for seeing what is working under pressure. Floor and beam are coming together really nicely, I will be expecting some big scores there very soon. We are in a good spot to maintain a high team score and achieve our team goals for the season. Every meet is a learning experience and this team is driven to compete and succeed every week. I'm excited to see how far we can go!
