Cortland junior
Cassidy Torres (Brooklyn/H.S. for Health Professionals & Human Services) and sophomore
Auttumn Ayakawa (Honolulu, HI/Coppell (TX)) have been named the Spry State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Oct. 11.
Torres swam on all three of Cortland's winning relays at the season-opening Cortland Pumpkin Relays last Saturday. She swam the opening leg on the 300-yard breaststroke relay (3:33.70) and the anchor leg on the 300-yard 100 IM Relay (3:19.80). She also swam the breaststroke leg in the 200-yard medley relay (1:58.10), and she had the fastest 50-yard freestyle leg (25.75) on Cortland's second-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:45.01).
Ayakawa won both diving events at the Pumpkin Relays. Last season's SUNYAC Women's Diver of the Year, Ayakawa finished first out of five competitors on the 1-meter board with a score of 221.15 points and was first of five on the 3-meter board with a score of 230.60 points.
Torres' and Ayakawa's performances helped Cortland finish first at the four-school event.
Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, with a dual meet at the University of Rochester.Â
