Cortland junior quarterback Mike Rescigno (Arlington) has been chosen as the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore kicker Cole Callard (Medina) has been named the Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Week for their performances in Cortland's 45-7 win at Alfred University on Oct. 17.

Rescigno completed a career-high 25 passes in 33 attempts for 241 yards and three touchdowns, and he ran 13 times for a team-high 81 yards, in the win at Alfred. His TD passes covered 18, 18 and 41 yards, and he posted runs of 19 and 18 yards during a first-quarter drive that led to a Cortland score and a 14-0 lead.

Through six games this season, Rescigno has rushed for 565 yards and four touchdowns and has completed 89-of-136 passes (65.4 percent) for 1,118 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Callard made his only field goal attempt and all six of his PAT kicks against the Saxons. His 32-yard field goal with 1:01 left in the first half gave the Red Dragons a 17-7 halftime lead.

For the season, Callard has made 6-of-7 field goals and 31-of-33 PAT kicks for 49 points.

Cortland (6-0, 4-0 Empire 8) is ranked 11th nationally in Division III by the AFCA and 12th by D3football.com. The Red Dragons will host St. John Fisher in league action Saturday at 1 p.m.
