BUFFALO, N.Y. –
Cassidy Torres (Brooklyn/H.S. for Health Professionals) won the 100-yard breaststroke to highlight Cortland's performances during Friday's action at the 2026 State University of New York Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The championship, which runs through Saturday, is being held at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College.
Cortland remains atop the team standings with 659 points, followed by Penn St. Behrend (535), Oswego (464), and Oneonta and Penn St. Altoona (each 224) in the top five of the 10-team field.
Torres won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.63.
Ella Garrow (Peru) finished second in the event at 1:06.07. Cortland also earned a runner-up finish in the 400-yard medley relay behind a time of 4:00.76 from
Emma Bouwens (Hilton), Torres,
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and
Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford). Bryce finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.41), Bouwens was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.38, 1:00.95 prelims), and
Morgan Hannon (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt) finished third in the 400-yard IM (4:45.54).
The top three finishers in each event earn All-SUNYAC honors. Winners are first team, runners-up are second team and third-place finishers are third team.
Bouwens was one of five Cortland swimmers in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke. In addition to her third-place finish,
Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) placed fourth (1:02.57, 1:01.56 prelims), Lynch was fifth (1:02.64),
Erin Galligan (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) was sixth (1:04.90, 1:04.45 prelims), and
Emma Wilson (Red Hook) finished seventh (1:05.58, 1:04.93 prelims).
Tristinye Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) finished fifth in the 400-yard IM (4:50.72), (Areiannah) Martinez-Reyes was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.40, 1:00.08 prelims), and
Ryann Redmond (Floral Park/Floral Park Memorial) placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.12).
Maura Nestler (Stormville/John Jay) was eighth in the 400-yard IM (4:57.42) and
Sydney Crozier (Amherst) ended up eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.57, 1:02.15 prelims).
Two Red Dragons won "B" finals for ninth-place overall finishes -
Peyton Glor (Tonawanda/Mount Saint Mary Academy) in the 400-yard IM (4:57.46) and
Makenna Deitz (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.54). Other Cortland scorers were Lillian Accettella (Newtown, CT) in 10th place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.92) and
Norah Eisnor (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in 14th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.22).
Teams are allowed to enter "B" relay teams that can score points, but can't finish ahead of any other school's "A" relays. Cortland's scoring "B" relay was the 400-yard medley relay team of (Tristinye) Martinez-Reyes, Garrow, Hannon and Galligan in ninth place overall in 4:04.53. They were the top "B" relay and would have finished fourth overall.
