Cortland freshman
Anthony Carlo (North Bellmore/St. Anthony's) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Baseball Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 15.
Carlo earns Athlete of the Week honors after batting .647 (11-for-17) with two doubles, two walks, two RBI, eight runs scored and a .700 on-base percentage during a 3-1 weekend for the Red Dragons at the Berry College Invitational in Georgia. He went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in a 13-2 victory over nationally fourth-ranked Belhaven, and was 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and four runs scored in an 18-5 win versus Marietta. Carlo also recorded two hits in each of Cortland's two games against Berry, including a walk, RBI and two runs scored in an 11-7 victory. Defensively, he totaled 10 putouts with no errors in the outfield.
Throughout 11 games this season, Carlo has the most hits on the team with 23 and has the highest batting average among qualified batters (two plate appearances per game) at .535.
Cortland (7-6-1) will start SUNYAC conference play this weekend in a 3-game home series with Plattsburgh on Friday and Saturday.
