CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Cortland women's gymnastics team finished in sixth place and sophomore
Tayah Graham (Syracuse/Blaze Gymnastics) earned All-America honors on vault at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships, hosted by Cortland for the first time since 2008.
Cortland finished with a team score of 192.250. Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the national title with a 194.750, followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse (194.100), Brockport (193.875), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (192.800), Wisconsin-Whitewater (192.495) and Cortland. The Red Dragons were competing in the six-team national field for the third straight season.
Graham tied for fifth place on vault by tying her career-high with a 9.775. She earned All-America honors for the second straight year; she tied for third place last season. Graham also finished in the top half on balance beam, tying for 17th place (9.65). The top eight finishers in each event are All-Americans. A total of 48 gymnasts competed in each event.
Eight other Red Dragons earned top-24 showings at the championship. On vault, junior
Kyleigh Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Endless Mountains Gymnastics) finished in 11th place with a season-high 9.700, senior
Gianna Mirigliano (Springfield, PA/Roth's CrossPoint Gymnastics) finished tied for 16th with a 9.675, and senior
Tessa Sutton (Fairport/Rochester Gymnastics Academy) finished 23rd with a 9.650.
On uneven bars, sophomore
Aria Roberts (Charlotte, NC/Everest Gymnastics) and junior
Kathryn McSweeney (East Brunswick, NJ/NJ Premier Gymnastics) both finished tied for 18th with scores of 9.725. The score was a career high for Roberts. On balance beam junior
Samantha Meadows (Cypress, TX/Texas Connections Academy at Houston) tied for 22nd with a 9.625. Then on floor exercise, junior
Autumn Adkins (Aledo, TX/Impact Athletics Training Center) finished tied for 20th with a 9.750 and senior
Rylee Fishkin (Manlius/CNY Gym Centre) finished tied for 24th with a 9.725.
Following the meet, three Cortland gymnasts - Mirigliano, Sutton and
Marisa Frascatore (Clay/CNY Gym Centre) - were recognized as NCGA All-Americans in Academics. The awards go to seniors with at least a 3.25 overall grade point average who appear on the team's NCGA squad list for the current year. The winners must be in their final year of athletic eligibility as well as seniors academically.
