CORTLAND, NY – The Cortland women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 10-0 lead after one quarter, and cruised to a 24-3 home victory over Morrisville in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon. Cortland is now 10-3 overall (6-0 SUNYAC), with all six of its conference wins coming by at least 10 goals. Morrisville falls to 4-5 (1-4 SUNYAC).
Sydney Elizalde (Ronkonkoma/Connetquot) and
Brooke Elizalde (Ronkonkoma/Connetquot) each provided three goals and two assists to lead the Red Dragons, while
Emma Dempsey (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) scored four goals and had two caused turnovers.
Kristen Javenes (North Rockland) finished with three goals and an assist, and
Ashley Melillo (Massapequa) had two goals and an assist.
Bridie McGuire (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) had three caused turnovers, three ground balls, and three draw controls, while also netting her first goal of the season.
Trinity Parks (Port Crane/Chenango Forks) made three saves and allowed just one goal in a little more than a half of action, while
Mia Bella Love (Mineola) played the final 27:14 in goal and also made three saves.
Anyssia Ingersoll scored all three of the goals for the Mustangs and had eight draw controls. Jaidon Brodie caused two turnovers and Grace Loadwick had one caused turnover and three ground balls. Aniyah Smith made 10 saves for Morrisville.
Cortland scored just 2:15 into the first period on a goal by Melillo in front after a feed from
Brooke Elizalde from behind the Morrisville goal. McGuire secured a draw control on the ensuing draw and the Red Dragons put a second goal into the net only 22 seconds later, with
Sydney Elizalde setting up Dempsey for the goal.
Cortland added five more goals in under a three-minute span before the midway point of the quarter, two goals by
Sydney Elizalde and one goal each by Dempsey, Melillo, and
Brooke Elizalde, to extend the lead to 7-0 with 7:41 remaining.

Ingersoll tallied her first goal of the game for Morrisville in the opening minute of the second quarter, but Cortland responded with a goal by McGuire in transition after a strong save in the Cortland defensive zone by Parks on Ingersoll.
The Red Dragons added six more goals over the rest of the second quarter, one each by
Chelsey Weber (Holtsville/Sachem East), Javenes,
Brooke Elizalde, Dempsey,
Lexi Caron (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius), and Katilyn Tietjen (Delmar/Bethlehem Central), to hold a 17-1 advantage into halftime.
Four different players scored a goal for Cortland in the third quarter –
Kelcey McGoldrick (Valley Cottage/Nyack),
Chloe Kniskern (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake),
Sierra Natoli (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), and
Campbell Hewlett (Churchville/Churchville Chili) – as the Red Dragons built their advantage to 21-1 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ingersoll netted back-to-back goals for the Mustangs early in the final frame, but Cortland wrapped up the contest by scoring the final three goals, two goals by Javenes and a player-up goal by
Alyssa Leotta (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills West).
