Red Dragons Post Season-Best Score at Union Spring Invitational

Kara Dumas tied for sixth with a career-best score of 80, including two birdies
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Cortland posted a season-best score and finished in second place out of three schools at the Union College Women's Golf Spring Invitational. The one-day event was held at the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course.
 
Ithaca finished first with a score of 314. Cortland finished with a 327, one shot better than Union's 328. Iyene Essien of Union was tournament medalist with a 74. Three Ithaca golfers - Abby Bladen, Annelise Stencel and Brianna Morrison - tied for second at 78, one stroke ahead of Cortland's top finisher Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley), who recorded a birdie and 10 pars to place fifth with a 79.
 
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) tied for sixth place with a career-best score of 80. She scored a 38 on the back nine, and she finished the day with two birdies and eight pars. Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) placed eighth with an 81. She recorded 10 pars and a birdie, and was one-under par over the final six holes. Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) finished 14th with an 87 and Steffi Trombley (Plattsburgh) was 17th with a 97.
 
Cortland will compete at the NCAA Division III Championship beginning May 19 at the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, Calif. The Red Dragons earned an NCAA automatic berth with their Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) title last weekend.
