Softball sophomore designated player/catcher Laila Smith (Guilderland) and men's outdoor track and field thrower Isaiah Brunache (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) have been named the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 17.

Laila Smith

Laila was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Division III Bethlehem, Pa. Regional after batting .571 (8-for-14) with a walk in four games. She went 3-for-4 in Cortland's opening loss to #21 Westfield State, was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in a win over Bowdoin, finished 2-for-3 in a win over Westfield, and went 2-for-4 in a loss to Moravian as Cortland finished second at the four-team regional.

Isaiah Brunache

Isaiah was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the AARTFC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships after scoring 21 team points and helping the Red Dragons finish second out of 64 schools at the meet. He won the discus with a distance of 51.65 meters (169' 5"), finished second in the shot put at 17.28 meters (56' 8.5") and was sixth in the hammer throw  at 54.81 meters (179' 10").
