Lucas Granger and Tristan Gatchalian Chosen to D3baseball.com National Team of the Week

Cortland senior outfielder Lucas Granger (Horseheads) and junior first baseman Tristan Gatchalian (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) have been selected to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week for the week ending May 3. The team consists of the top players for the week, by position, among all Division III schools.

Granger batted .615 (8-for-13) with two homers, three walks, two steals, three RBI and four runs scored in Cortland's SUNYAC semifinal best-of-3 series victory versus Oneonta last weekend. He went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in a 14-2 win in Game 1 and was 3-for-5 in the second game. He also had nine fielding chances (eight putouts, one assist) in center field without an error.

Granger has started 37 games this season and is batting .400 with six homers, six doubles, 39 walks, 29 RBI and 44 runs scored. He ranks 11th nationally in Division III in walks and 26th in on-base percentage (.549).

Gatchalian hit .615 (8-for-13) with three homers, a double, three walks, nine RBI and three runs scored in Cortland's best-of-three SUNYAC semifinal series victory over Oneonta. He finished with a 1.385 slugging percentage and .688 on-base percentage. In the decisive third game, Gatchalian went 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and seven RBI in a 10-4 victory. He hit two-run homers to give Cortland 2-0 and 4-2 leads, and his three-run double capped a four-run eighth inning to put the game away.

Gatchalian in hitting .434 in 37 starts this spring. He's recorded six homers, eight doubles, a triple, 29 walks, 17 hit by pitches, 39 RBI and 40 runs scored. He ranks 42nd nationally in Division III in batting average and 13th in on-base percentage (.567).

Cortland (27-9-1) will host Oswego in the SUNYAC championship best-of-three series beginning on Friday.
