Coach's Corner - Comments from Cortland Head Coach Steve Patrick:
The weekend after SUNYACs is always a bit tough – there's a bit of an emotional letdown after the conference meet, along with the stress of the end of classes and upcoming finals. That can make for a somewhat strange competitive situation; having a bit of a rougher day of weather on Saturday can make it a bit tough as well. We certainly hope that the folks that are continuing this season or returning can learn from any less-than-ideal performances improve in the future!
We also definitely had some highlights! For the women,
Kendall Sobczyk put together a great weekend running tough in the 100; the high jump squad had a wonderful competition as well! Of course
Reilly Quinn gets the kudos for the big PR (and moving up to tie for 5th on our all-time list);
Georgia Spuches Jwaskiewicz had a great day of jumping, with some of the best jumps of her career to clear 1.63 and then at 1.68. When you are taking good attempts at a new PR, that's a great sign for things to come!
On the men's side,
Cabe Hogue setting a new shot put PR was great, as was
Lucas Chamberlain hitting a new discus PR.
Kyle Friedel ran a great PR in the 800, cracking not only the 2:00 but also the 1:59 barriers! Finally, the men's 4x4 of
Daniel Kahler,
Zion Cheatham,
Daaron Harrell and
Kyler Alston had an excellent run on Friday night, moving up to 4th on our all-time list; we're excited to chase a few small corrections to run even better this upcoming week at the AARTFC Championships. We're bring a small squad down to the meet, but are excited about what we can accomplish!
