Cortland junior Phoebe Peer (Saranac Lake) has been named the Spry State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20.

Peer finished in ninth place out of 212 runners at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational last Saturday. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 22:44.9, and moved up from 47th after 2,000 meters to 19th at the 4K mark on her way to ninth at the finish. Peer was the fifth-best Division III runner in the race, and she helped Cortland place fourth out of 16 teams in the final standings.

Peer has posted top-10 finishes in each of Cortland's first three races this year. She was third at the season-opening Oneonta Airfield Invitational and placed fifth at the Cornell University Opener.

Cortland returns to action Saturday at the Roberts Wesleyan Harry F. Anderson Invitational.
