DELHI, N.Y. - The Cortland women's tennis team picked up its first SUNYAC win of the season with a 7-0 victory over SUNY Delhi in a match held at Delaware Academy.
The Red Dragons (5-4, 1-2 SUNYAC) lost only one game in seven combined doubles and singles matches; Cortland won by default at third doubles and sixth singles since Delhi had no player on those flights. (NOTE: Due to a glitch in the online box score system, a Cortland player is listed in the third doubles and sixth singles slot; officially Cortland has no player in those spots).
In doubles action,
Christina Massoni (West Babylon) and
Gabriella Stanley (Buffalo/Niagara-Wheatfield) won 6-0 at number one and
Reaghan Hughes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and
Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) won 6-0 at number two.
Gracie Guiliano (Rome/Notre Dame) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fifth singles, and Cortland clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Hughes at third singles. Massoni won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles,
Anneli Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles, and Stanley won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.
Cortland will play at Alfred University in a non-league match on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a SUNYAC contest the following day at Fredonia at 12:30 p.m. (the start time at Fredonia recently changed from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.).
