CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior
Madison Oliver (Holland Patent) scored off a pass from
Lillian Morse (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) 3:08 into overtime to lift the Cortland field hockey team past nationally 21st-ranked Haverford, 1-0, in a non-league contest at Cortland's Stadium Complex.

Sofia Cannistraci (Guilderland) made nine saves for her second straight shutout for the Red Dragons, who improved to 2-0 on the season. Haverford, which defeated Cortland last season, 3-1, is now 0-1.

Haverford goalie Steph Ionescu finished with three saves. The Fords outshot Cortland, 15-5, and earned 11 penalty corners to five for the hosts.

With the teams playing 7 vs. 7 in overtime, Morse was able to work her way into the circle from the right side and sent a crossing pass to Oliver, who had positioned herself right in front of the cage. Oliver tapped in the pass to give Cortland the win.

Cortland took the only two shots of the first quarter, but from that point Haverford had the better of the play. The Fords outshot Cortland in the second quarter, 7-1, and had an 8-0 advantage in the second half. The Red Dragons, however, registered the only two shots of the overtime period.

Cortland will host Ithaca in a non-league game 7 p.m. Wednesday. Ithaca hosts Haverford Sunday morning.
