AUBURN, NY - Junior left handed stater Dan Nelson (GLASTONBURY, CT/Glastonbury) pitched six scoreless innings, striking out three batters while walking only two, while senior second baseman Keith Patnode (KEENE, NH/Keene) accounted for the game's lone run on a sacrifice fly as fifth-seeded Keene State College defeated fourth-seeded Skidmore College in the open game of the Auburn Regional of the 2010 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship at Falcon Park.

The fifth-seeded Owls (27-15-1) will face either top seed and host SUNY Cortland or eighth seed Castleton State College in a winner's bracket game on Thursday, May 20 at 4 p.m. Fourth seeded Skidmore (30-14) will play the loser of the Cortland-Castleton State contest in an elimination contest at 10 a.m.

Keene scored the game's only run in the top of the fourth inning. Patnode reached second on a one-out double, advanced to third on a single by junior leftfielder Peter Burgio (BOLTON, CT/Bolton), and scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore designated hitter Erik Bergstrom (ENFIELD, CT/Enrico Fermi). Burgio and centerfielder Kyle Morrill each registered a pair of hits for Keene.

Junior reliever Corey Vogt (SUFFIELD, CT/Suffield) was one of four pitchers used by the Owls, picking up his fifth save of the season, facing five batters and striking out two while walking one.

Junior righthander Trevor Brucato (STAMFORD, CT/Bronxville (NY)) pitched eight innings in getting the loss (3-4) for Skidmore, striking out five and walking one while yielding the lone run.
