AUBURN, NY – The College at Brockport broke for five runs on five hits in the first three innings, highlighted by a second inning solo home run and a run-scoring single in the third inning by senior left fielder Zach Prentice (Auburn, NY), and never looked back on its way to a 10-0 victory over Mitchell College (CT) in the first of two elimination games on the day at the 2011 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Auburn (NY) Regional at Falcon Park, co-hosted by SUNY Cortland and the Auburn Doubledays.

The Golden Eagles (28-13), seeded fourth, will face the loser of tonight’s winner’s bracket contest between Keystone College and Farmingdale State College in another elimination game on Friday, May 20 at 1:15 p.m. The eighth seeded Mariners, the New England Collegiate Conference tournament champion, completes its first NCAA tournament run with a 23-11-1 record.

Brockport, which added a pair of runs in the fifth, sixth, and ninth innings, scattered 15 hits in the contest, with at least a hit coming in each inning except the seventh. Prentice led a contingent of four players with multiple hits, batting 4-for-5 with three runs batted in, two runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases.

Junior designated hitter Corey Booth (Middetown, NY/Minisink Valley) and senior shortstop Tom McCormick (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) both went 3-for-5 with two RBI, with Booth also scoring twice and McCormick stealing a pair of bases, and senior first baseman Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) hit 2-for 5 with a run scored.

The Golden Eagles sent five pitchers to the mound, with junior Anthony Siracusa (Auburn, NY) picking up the win in relief. Coming in for junior starter Aaron Tilley (Troy, NY) Siracusa (2-2) tossed a one hitter for three innings, walking two and striking out three in facing 13 batters. Tilley pitched the opening four inning, limiting Mitchell to two hits and a walk while striking out six in encountering 15 batters.

Freshman starter Jon Blair (Waterford, CT) got the loss (5-4) for Mitchell, allowing six hits, four runs (three earned) and four walks while striking out two batters in three and a third innings. Paul Martinez tossed the final five and two-third innings, yielding nine hits, six runs (four earned) and three walks while striking out five. Freshman catcher Anthony Santiago (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) was the lone Mariner with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
