AUBURN, NY – Fourth-seeded The College at Brockport gave up the opening run of the game in the first inning, but did all of its scoring in the middle three innings, sparked by a four-hit, four-run fifth inning, on its way to a 6-2 victory over second-seeded Farmingdale State College in an elimination game of the 2011 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Auburn Regional co-hosted by SUNY Cortland and the Auburn Doubledays.

The Golden Eagles (29-13), the 2004 NY regional champion making their third NCAA tournament appearance, will take on fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University in the final contest of the night. Should the preceding game between SUNY Cortland and Keystone College run into the late hours, then both teams will play in the opening game of the day on Saturday, May 21 at approximately 10:00 a.m.

The Rams, the Skyline Conference champion making their fourth NCAA appearance (capturing the 2009 NY Regional title), concludes their season at 27-17.

Sophomore second baseman Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY) and junior designated hitter Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) provided the majority of the offense for Brockport, both going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Coleman delivered the deciding blow of the sixth inning with a two-run single with two out and scored the third run of the inning on a double to left centerfield from senior center fielder Max Keado (Troy, NY/Catholic Central).

The Golden Eagles tied the game up in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from senior shortstop Tom McCormick (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame), who finished hitting 2-for-3 with a run scored, then tallied the eventual game winner in the fifth as Booth singled to center field with one out, scoring Coleman.

Sophomore right hander James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) pitched seven strong innings in facing 28 batters, yielding five hits, a run, and a pair of walks with four strikeouts, to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Sophomore right fielder Terrance Bohonan (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) drove in the lone run for Farmingdale in the top of the first inning, tagging a single to the right side with one out to score senior center fielder Frank Yera (Manhattan, NY/Grand Street Campus) from second base.

Senior left fielder Ryan Rubenstein (Deer Park, NY/St. Anthony’s) was the lone multiple hit performer for the Rams, going 2-for-3. Freshman right hander Mike Dolce (St. James, NY/St. Anthony’s) picked up the loss on the mound, yielding five hits, two runs and a walk while striking out three batters in four innings pitched.
