Former Cortland standout middle infielder Cory Haggerty was named the Red Dragons' baseball associate head coach in October 2024. He previously served as an assistant coach during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, as well as for four seasons from 2010-13.
Haggerty was an assistant coach at Utica College for four seasons from 2019-22. The Ilion, N.Y., native also served as the head coach for the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League for two seasons, coaching three 2021 MLB Draft picks in Justin Guerrera (Mets), Jimmy Joyce (Mariners) and CJ Rodriguez (Athletics).
Prior to Utica, Haggerty spent time as an assistant coach at Hamilton College and Eckerd College in addition to his time coaching at Cortland. He served as an infield coach and hitting instructor at Hamilton, and he assisted with the hitters and was an outfield instructor at Eckerd.
During his Cortland playing career from 2000-03, Haggerty appeared in 163 games, with 151 starts, and posted a career .335 batting average with 176 hits, 27 doubles, nine triples, 15 homers, 97 RBI, 147 runs, 78 walks and 34 stolen bases. He had a 22-game hitting streak in 2002.
Haggerty earned second team all-region honors as both a second baseman in 2001 and a shortstop in 2002, was an All-SUNYAC selection in both 2001 and 2002, earned first team All-ECAC Upstate New York honors in 2002, and was named to the NCAA New York Regional all-tournament team in both 2002 and 2003. He served as a team captain during his senior year.
Haggerty helped Cortland make four straight NCAA tournament appearances, including World Series showings in 2000 and 2001, and win four SUNYAC titles. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2003 MLB Draft and played four seasons in the organization, including a stint at Class AA Birmingham.
