Jacob Smith begins his second season as an assistant coach on the Cortland men’s and women’s cross country staff in 2008.
Prior to Cortland, Smith, who is a USA Track and Field Level 1 certified coach, completed an internship with the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2006. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs at Bowling Green State University during the 2005 season.
Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green in 2006. He was a two-year member of the cross country team and a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. A member of the Ohio Air National Guard, Smith served deployments to Qatar in 2002 and Iraq in 2005.
Before attending Bowling Green, Smith was enrolled at Alfred University, where he competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field for two seasons.
