Former Red Dragon standout Ben Nagle will work with the Cortland football staff in 2012. He will assist with the team’s defensive line coaching while completing an internship to earn his bachelor’s degree in sport management.
Nagle played at Cortland from 2005-08. As a junior defensive end in 2007, he recorded 73 tackles and team highs of nine sacks and 16.5 total tackles for losses in 11 starts. He earned first-team All-East honors and was the MVP of the ECAC Northeast Bowl after recording four sacks and three forced fumbles in a win over Union. During his senior campaign in 2008, Nagle started all 13 games for the Red Dragon squad that advanced to the NCAA Div. III quarterfinals. He was a third-team All-American and first-team All-East and All-ECAC selection and finished with 72 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 13.5 total tackles for losses.
Following his football career, Nagle played one season for Cortland’s men’s basketball team during the 2009-10 school year. He started all 27 games and averaged 6.4 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. Nagle is a Rochester, N.Y., native and a 2005 graduate of Aquinas Institute.
