Colin Schaeffer starts his second season as a member of the Cortland coaching staff in 2020 and coaches the team’s linebackers. He came to Cortland from Division II Seton Hill University (Pa.), where he worked with defensive linemen and was the defensive quality control coach in 2018.

During the 2016 and 2017 seasons Schaeffer worked with outside linebackers at Muhlenberg College (Pa.). The Mules ranked 12th nationally in Division III in rushing defense, finished the season 8-3 and won the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl in 2017, and the previous year went 9-1 during the regular season before losing by three points to Delaware Valley in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series.

Schaeffer graduated from Juniata College (Pa.) in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in management with a minor in English. He played inside linebacker for the Eagles for four seasons, and he also served as a volunteer linebacker coach for the program in the spring of 2016.

A native of Newport, Pa., Schaeffer is a 2012 alumnus of Newport High School, where he competed in football, wrestling, and track and field. He was the football team’s Defensive MVP and Offensive Lineman of the Year during his senior year and earned all-conference honors at defensive end twice.
