Recruiting Areas: NYS Sections 1 and 9
Eric Bunker started as Cortland's offensive coordinator in 2025, and in his first season with the Red Dragons the program won the Empire 8 title and averaged 46 points per game in conference play and 36 points game overall. The Red Dragons coaching staff was named the 2025 Empire 8 Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
At quarterback, Bunker guided first-year starter and sophomore Mike Rescigno to second team all-conference honors. Rescigno tied the school single-game passing touchdown record with five and set the school single-season quarterback rushing record with 1,068 yards (97.1 yards per game). He finished the season with 34 total touchdowns (22 passing, 12 rushing) and four Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week awards. Cortland’s offense also produced 11 all-conference selections, including four first team honorees, five second team honorees, and two third team selections. Offensive linemen Aidan Glynn earned D3football.com All-America honors, and Glynn and Nate Graser were all-region selections.
Prior to Cortland, Bunker spent five seasons at Brown University from 2019-2024, coaching both the running backs and wide receivers before being named recruiting coordinator ahead of the 2024 season. Under his guidance, Brown led the Ivy League in receptions for four consecutive seasons and in receiving yards three times. In 2023, Brown’s receivers were led by Wes Rockett, who finished second for the Bushnell Cup Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Ivy and All-New England honors. Rockett led the league in receptions, receiving yards, punt return average, and all-purpose yards, finishing his career among Brown’s all-time leading wide receivers.
Bunker began his tenure at Brown as the running backs coach in 2019, helping the Bears more than double their rushing production from the previous season, increasing from 65.1 to 153.4 yards per game. Brown’s offense also scored 303 points that season, more than the previous two seasons combined.
Before Brown, Bunker coached running backs at Bryant University, where he helped improve the team’s rushing attack from 77 yards per game in 2016 to 157 yards per game in 2018. He also served as an offensive quality control coach and assistant quarterbacks coach at Princeton University, helping the Tigers win the 2016 Ivy League Championship while mentoring future NFL quarterbacks John Lovett and Chad Kanoff. Lovett won the Bushnell Cup, while Kanoff earned Second Team All-Ivy honors.
Bunker previously interned with the New England Patriots and served as the running backs coach and offensive coordinator at Masconomet Regional High School. He also worked as a strength coach at Mike Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning.
A 2012 graduate of Amherst College, Bunker captained the 2011 football team to an undefeated season and NESCAC Championship and was named NESCAC Player of the Year.
