Tom Murphy returns for his sixth season on the Cortland staff in 2015. He coaches the team’s running backs and is the Red Dragons’ special teams coordinator after previously coaching outside linebackers in 2010 and 2011. In 2014, Cortland ranked first nationally in Division III in team kickoff return average and Dylan Peebles led the national individually in kickoff return average and touchdowns.

A Cortland native, Murphy coached the varsity football and modified boys’ lacrosse teams at Cortland High School from 2006-09 and also coached junior varsity football and lacrosse and modified boys’ basketball from 2000-01.

Murphy graduated from Mansfield University in 1996 with a degree in criminal justice administration. He played four seasons on the offensive line for the Division II Mountaineers from 1990-93 and was a forward on the basketball team during the 1994-95 season. Murphy also spent time as an assistant on the Mansfield basketball staff from 1995-96. A 1990 Cortland High alumnus, Murphy earned all-league honors in football, basketball and lacrosse on the scholastic level. Murphy and his wife, Judie, have three children – Adrianna (12), Kaedyn (10) and Thomas (7).
