Tunde Agboke begins his second season as Cortland’s defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2015. In his first season in 2014, the Red Dragons ranked 11th nationally in Division III in third-down conversion defense (27 percent), and one of the linemen he coached, Gabe Ostrow, earned a mini-camp invitation from the NFL’s Washington Redskins.
Agboke previously worked from 2011-13 at Marist College, where he coached defensive linemen for three years and was the special teams coordinator for one year. In 2013, Marist won the Pioneer Conference Championship and set a school record for wins in a season. Agboke coached All-America defensive end Terrence Fede, who was chosen in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins as Marist’s first-ever NFL draft selection. During Agboke’s three seasons, Marist ranked in the top 10 four times and the top 20 four times in NCAA FCS in defensive categories. In all, his defensive linemen at Marist earned a combined 10 all-conference selections.
Agboke coached the defensive line at Shippensburg University in 2010, and the previous season was a linebackers coach at William Paterson University. His players earned two all-league awards at each school.
Agboke began his playing career as a redshirt safety at the University of Kentucky for one season before transferring to Southeast Missouri State. At SMS, he was a three-year starter at linebacker and a two-year captain. A Dean’s List student, he earned the 2005 Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor for maintaining at least a 3.25 grade point average in season. He is a native of Houston, Texas, and was born in Lagos, Nigeria.
