Dr. Bill Williams returns to the Cortland coaching staff for his fifth season in 2009-10 after a three-year hiatus. Williams served as an assistant coach for the Red Dragons from 1991-2002. He was also Cortland’s head coach from 1981-89 and was the 1983 SUNYAC “Coach of the Year” after leading the Red Dragons to a 16-7 mark.
Williams starred on the hardwood for the Red Dragons from 1966-69, registering 910 career points and earning first team All-SUNYAC honors as a senior. He returned to the College as an assistant coach in 1979 and served in that role for two years before becoming head coach.
Williams holds a master’s degree from Elmira College and a Ph.D. from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He and his wife, Phyllis, have three sons: Seth, Chris and Scott.
