Michael Derecola, who is the owner and head strength and conditioning coach of Strides of CNY, joins the Cortland men’s hockey coaching staff in 2016-17 as the program’s strength and conditioning coach.
Prior to joining the Red Dragons, Derecola served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Le Moyne College for eight years. During the 2013-14 season, he held the same position with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL). From 2002-09, Derecola was the head certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach for the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.
Previously, Derecola spent three years working in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) with the Huntington Blizzard and Charlotte Checkers and served as the Northern Division’s head athletic trainer at the ECHL All-Star Game in Trenton, N.J.
A native of Pottstown, Pa., Derecola earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from West Chester University. He is certified as an athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association and as a strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
