Nick Zappia begins his first season as an assistant coach on the Cortland men's hockey staff in 2019-20.
Zappia played four seasons for Cortland from 2011-15, leading the team in scoring as a freshman, sophomore and senior. During his senior season, Zappia led NCAA Div. III in points per game and goals per game and was an All-SUNYAC and All-America selection. He finished sixth on Cortland's all-time points list and second on the program's all-time goals list. Following his Cortland career, Zappia spent time with the Bakersfield Condors and the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL.
For the past three years, Zappia has coached midget in the Syracuse Blazers organization. The Blazers finished as New York State runners-up in 2019 and made a semifinal appearance in 2018.
Zappia graduated from Cortland in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in political science. He currently lives in Syracuse, N.Y., where he works as a marketing consultant.
