Ryan Michel begins his first season as an assistant coach on the Cortland men's ice hockey staff in 2017-18. Michel played defense for four seasons at Hobart College. While with the Statesmen, he was a three-time All-ECAC West selection as well as team MVP during his junior and senior seasons. He finished his collegiate career ranked ninth on Hobart's all-time assist list. Following Hobart, Michel played two seasons professionally for the Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League, winning regular-season and postseason championships.
Michel received a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from Hobart. The Camillus, N.Y., native works summer hockey camps in central New York for West Genesee High School and the Salt City Prospects.
