The 2009 season is Peter Degere’s first as an assistant coach on the Cortland men’s soccer staff. Degere was a four-year starter for the Cortland men’s soccer team under current head coach Dwight Hornibrook.
Over his career, Degere started 77 of the 78 games in which he played and scored 16 points on one goal and 14 assists. He earned second team All-SUNYAC honors as a freshman and was a second team selection as a junior.
As a sophomore, he led the team with seven assists. After his senior season, Degere earned second team all-region and first team all-conference honors, while helping lead the Red Dragons to the SUNYAC title and a tie for 17th nationally.
Degere, who earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the College in 2009, is a native of West Islip and competed in soccer, basketball and track and field at West Islip High.
