Marques Dexter begins his second season as an assistant coach on the Cortland cross country and track and field teams in 2010-11. He also serves as an instructor in the physical education department and an adjunct member of the sport management staff, and holds a USATF Level II certification in jumps.
In the 2009-10 track and field season at Cortland, Dexter coached three NCAA qualifiers, nine ECAC qualifiers and nine SUNYAC scorers in horizontal jumps. He also was a Central Region coach at the 2010 Empire State Games.
Prior to Cortland, Dexter was a volunteer assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams at the University of Georgia. He assisted in recruiting women's sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers and with the development of horizontal jumpers, sprinters and hurdlers. He also helped with numerous administrative duties, such as recruiting coordination, office management, travel coordination and budgeting.
Dexter earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Robert Morris University and a master’s degree in Kinesiology from Georgia. While at Robert Morris, he competed in the long jump and triple jump for three seasons. Previously, Dexter attended Rider University and was a horizontal jumper for the Broncs.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Dexter competed in track and field at Central High.
