Sam Brunnette is working as an assistant coach with the Red Dragon cross country and track and field teams in 2021-22. He previously worked with the Red Dragon track and field teams during the 2019-20 season.
Brunnette was a standout runner at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. He earned four All-American honors, finishing 25th nationally at the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships, fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and seventh in 2019 and eighth in 2018 in the 3,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. He also competed at the NCAA outdoor championships in the 3,000 meters in 2017 and the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2019.
Brunnette won NCAA New England Cross Country regional titles in both 2017 and 2018 as well as three straight Little East cross country crowns from 2016-18. He won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2019 and the 5,000 meters in 2018 at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and was a three-time steeplechase champion, two-time outdoor 4x800-meter relay champion, and three-time indoor 3,000-meter and mile winner at the New England Alliance Championships.
A native of Newport Center, Vt., Brunnette majored in environmental science at Plymouth State and graduated in 2019. He's currently a sport management graduate student at Cortland.
