Former Cortland standout Wendell Brand, Jr. joined the Cortland coaching staff in 2022-23 working primarily with the teams' jumpers.
Brand was an NCAA Division III outdoor qualifier in the long jump in 2019, placing 12th nationally, and he earned all-region honors in the event. During the 2019 indoor season he won the SUNYAC title in the long jump and was the SUNYAC Men's Championship Co-Field Athlete of the Meet. He also earned All-SUNYAC honors with runner-up finishes in the long jump at the 2019 outdoor and 2020 indoor conference meets, as well as with a third-place showing in the triple jump at the 2018 outdoor championship.
Brand was a five-time All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) performer - three times in the triple jump (2018 and 2019 outdoor, 2020 indoor) and twice in the long jump (2019 and 2019 indoor). He earned Cortland's men's track and field Red Letter Award for the 2019 outdoor season.
Brand graduated from Cortland in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in recreation. The Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., native is a 2016 alumnus of Sleepy Hollow High School, where competed in football, basketball and track and field. He was a league champion in the hurdles, long jump, triple jump and high jump in addition to earning all-county recognition and being a state qualifier participant. Brand also was all-league and all-county in both basketball and football.
