Mason Rowlands joined the Cortland coaching staff in the 2025-26 school year after swimming for the Red Dragons for four years.

Rowlands was a member of Cortland's program from 2021-25, competing in the 200-yard, 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle, and the 4x200-yard and 4x100-yard freestyle relays. As a senior in 2024-25, he served as a team captain and earned All-SUNYAC honors in four events - he swam on 400-yard and 800-yard freestyle relay teams that were second overall, and first among SUNYAC entries, at the combined SUNYAC-AMCC meet, and he finished third overall (second SUNYAC) in the 200-yard freestyle and fourth overall (second SUNYAC) in the 1,650-yard freestyle. His efforts helped Cortland claim the team title at the SUNYAC-AMCC championship.

Rowlands also was part of second-place 800-yard freestyle relay teams at the 2022, 2023 and 2024 SUNYAC Championships, as well as a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a third-place effort in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 2023.

Rowlands graduated from Cortland in 2025 with a bachelor's degree in physical education in the 4+1 program with health education. The Campbell Hall, N.Y., native has served as a coach for the New York Sharks Aquatic Club. He graduated in 2021 from Washingtonville High School, where he swam for six seasons and earned three Section Nine titles
