SUNY Cortland Athletics

Mitchell Binda was named assistant sports information director at Cortland in August 2024 and serves as the primary contact for the soccer, field hockey, ice hockey, wrestling, and lacrosse programs. 

In 2025, Binda was one of 30 participants selected for the second class of the NCAA Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program, a professional development initiative hosted annually at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis. 
 
Binda, Cortland alumnus, returned to Central New York after a three-year stint at Buffalo State University from 2021-24. 
 
For the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, Binda served as assistant athletic director for communications at Buffalo State, after previously serving as athletic communications assistant at the university in the 2021-22 school year. 
 
Binda oversaw communications efforts for each of Buffalo State's 20 intercollegiate athletic programs, including media efforts for the additions of men's volleyball, acrobatics & tumbling, and women's wrestling as varsity sports. He also managed game day operations and statistical tracking for all home contests.
 
During his time at Buffalo State, Binda developed and executed marketing campaigns for student-athletes, including four individual national championships, 14 All-America honors, and numerous regional, conference, and academic awards. 
 
Binda graduated summa cum laude from Cortland in May of 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management and a concentration in Intercollegiate Administration & Governance.
 
While an undergraduate student at Cortland, he served as a student assistant in the sports information office for three years, performing live statistics duties and assisting with game day implementation and management for ten varsity programs.
 
He completed his senior internship in the athletics communications office at Binghamton University in the Spring 2021 semester, creating pregame and post-game graphics, as well as highlight videos and assisting with stories for the department's website and social media accounts. 

Binda also serves as vice chair of the SUNYAC SID Council, has served on the NCAA Division III Regional Advisory Committee for men's lacrosse, and is a voting member of College Sports Communicators.
