    Assistant Men's Hockey Coach
Sean Allen begins his first season as the lead assistant coach for the Cortland men's hockey team in 2025-26.

Allen joined Cortland after spending the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at Trine University. He helped guide the Thunder to a 21-7-2 overall record, climbing to as high as fourth in the USCHO.com weekly national poll. Trine also made its first-ever NCAA Div. III tournament appearance, defeating Oswego in the opening round before falling to eventual national champion Hobart, 3-2 in overtime, in the national quarterfinals to finish tied for fifth in the country. During the season, Allen oversaw the Trine defense that finished ninth in the nation in scoring defense (2.10 goals allowed per game) and 13th in penalty-kill percentage (85.8% success rate).

Allen worked on the West Coast with the UCLA ACHA team prior to his time at Trine. In his time with the Bruins, he led the team to three consecutive ACHA Western Regional tournaments. Allen also served as a consultant for the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), assisting with scouting and video analysis for the team. 

Allen has also held positions in hockey operations and scouting for 85 Sports Management, based in Columbus, Ohio, and was an analytics intern for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL).  
 
The Ballston Spa native played three seasons as a defenseman on the hockey team at Hamilton College, finishing his collegiate career with 31 points on four goals and 27 assists. The Continentals won 40 games in those three seasons, and also reached the semifinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tournament two times. 
 
Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hamilton in 2021.
