Sue Carlin

Sue Carlin enters her 12th season as an assistant coach on the Cortland field hockey staff in 2025. In 11 seasons as an assistant coach at Cortland, she's helped guide the Red Dragons to four SUNYAC tournament titles, including three straight from 2022-24, and five NCAA Div. III playoff appearances. Carlin was a member of the Cortland staff that earned both SUNYAC and National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Region 3 Coaching Staff of the Year honors in both 2023 and 2024. 

Carlin joined the Red Dragon coaching staff after a prolific high school coaching career at Maine-Endwell and Greene Central. She posted more than 400 career wins, which included 13 Section Four titles, nine state final four appearances and five state championships, over 28 seasons. She guided Maine-Endwell to back-to-back state titles in 1988 and 1989 and led Greene to state crowns in 2002, 2009 and 2012.

Carlin, who earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education at Cortland, was a three-year member of the Red Dragon field hockey team as a back. Prior to Cortland, Carlin competed in field hockey, volleyball, basketball and softball at Herkimer Community College.

In 2024, WICZ-TV of Binghamton chose Carlin as number seven on its list of the all-time Top 40 Most Impactful Local Sports Figures.
