CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals as the Cortland field hockey team defeated visiting The College at Brockport, 4-0, Friday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference and can clinch the regular-season title with a win versus Geneseo on Saturday. The Golden Eagles fell to 6-5 and 2-3 with the loss.

Junior Erin Smith (Greene) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland with seniors Sara Woodward (Ancram/Pine Plains) and Erin Carrino (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and junior Mallory Guerin (Port Jefferson) each scoring a goal. Senior Katie Barbagallo (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) collected an assist. Senior goalie Emily von Schondorf (Webster/Webster Thomas) made one save in the first half before giving way to sophomore Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge), who did not face a shot on goal in the second half.

Senior goalie Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg) stopped seven shots and allowed four goals in 58 minutes, 28 seconds for Brockport. Freshman Elizabeth Hogan (Gloversville) played the final 11:32 in goal and did not register a save. Junior Nikkia Russell (Deposit) recorded a defensive save.

Woodward scored the lone goal of the first half at the 26:56 mark. Barbagallo sent a ball deep to the left of the circle where Woodward lifted a shot over Schreiner's shoulder for her sixth goal of the season. The Golden Eagles had an excellent chance seven and a half minutes earlier, but von Schondorf made a diving save on a shot by freshman Breana D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) after a penalty corner.

The Red Dragons took control of the game with three goals in a 15:03 span in the second half. Carrino made it a 2-0 game with a one-timer at the left post on Smith's cross from the right at 41:03. Smith then tallied a goal on a penalty stroke at 51:40 with her shot deflecting off a diving Schreiner and inside the left post. Guerin finished the scoring at 56:06, knocking in her own rebound after Russell's defensive save.
