CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Kayla DeAngelis (Liverpool) scored her second goal of the game just one minute, 29 seconds into overtime to lead the Geneseo field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Cortland Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons fell to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference with the loss and earned the third seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Knights improved to 11-4 and 5-1 and secured the second seed in the conference playoffs.

Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) made six saves.
Senior Rachel Atkins (Clarence) and junior Kerry Hosford (Garden City) recorded assists for Geneseo. Freshman goalie Dayna Mercer (Katonah/John Jay) registered nine saves.
Smith gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at 26:03 with her team-high 11th goal of the season, chipping a shot over Mercer. DeAngelis tied the score 3:13 into the second half when she blasted a one-time shot past Perricone. In overtime, DeAngelis gave the Knights the victory on a deflection off a pass from Atkins.
The same two teams will meet in a SUNYAC Semifinal game on Friday, Nov. 2, 1:30 p.m., at top-seeded New Paltz.
